PACIA CEO, Samantha Read, has welcomed the appointment of Dr. Alan Finkel as Australia’s Chief Scientist.
Dr. Finkel has a strong background in research, innovation and communication. He has also been a strong advocate for increased STEM education and building commercial relationships between business and the research sectors.
“These are critical areas of interest to the Australian chemistry industry,” Ms Read said.
“PACIA’s Strategic Industry Roadmap identifies major advanced manufacturing growth opportunities for our industry, throughout our region. These opportunities will help to provide highly skilled jobs while also diversifying and strengthening our economy, and contributing to improved societal and environmental outcomes.”
“Improving collaboration between universities, research centres and industry is a key enabler to support the Australian chemistry industry to take advantage of these growth markets.
PACIA is taking the lead in bringing the research sector, academia and the chemistry industry together to drive manufacturing innovation, improve materials, products and processes and contribute to sustainable economic growth.
The Chemicals and Plastics Manufacturing Innovation Network (CAPMIN) and the Victorian Centre for Sustainable Chemical Manufacturing (VCSCM) located at Monash University’s Green Chemical Futures facility, are a consortia approach between PACIA and Monash University, CSIRO and EPA Victoria.
“These initiatives are making an important and meaningful contribution to the industry” said Ms Read. As an example, CAPMIN offers business-oriented research opportunities to PhD students, enabling them to work with companies to solve real challenges leading to commercialisation.
PACIA is currently examining opportunities to develop partnerships with other states, universities and research providers.
“I would like to thank Professor Chubb for his significant contribution, commitment and leadership,” Ms Read said. “We wish him all the very best with his future endeavours.”
